Shigeru Ban – Cardboard Architecture

Shigeru Ban is a Japanese Architect known for hisĀ innovative work with paper and cardboard. In the temporary Cardboard Cathedral, Christchurch NZ, the materials included recycled cardboard tubes, wood and glass. Shigeru designed the Cathedral with minimal waste and easy to recycle once a permanent structure could be built. The Cathedral was finished in 2013 and it came after the initial church was destroyed in the earthquake that hit Christchurch on 22 Feb 2011, resulting inĀ one of its worst catastrophes.
